South Carolina: Beaufort County Government Offices Close Early, Other Businesses Should Consider Doing the Same

GOVERNMENT OFFICES CLOSING EARLY DUE TO HIGH WINDS (9:30 am, September 5, 2008) – This morning the National Weather Service issued a forecast advising that wind gusts from Tropical Storm Hanna may reach 50-60 mph this afternoon, continuing into the late evening hours.

Residents of Beaufort County are urged to bring in all outside materials, and to take action to protect themselves and their property against strong, damaging winds.

Beaufort County, the Town of Port Royal, and the City of Beaufort, government offices will be closing at 3:00 pm this afternoon.

Businesses in the county are encouraged to consider closing early as well today to allow employees to get home early ahead of the storm and winds.

The Beaufort County Emergency Operations Center will open at 12:00 pm today and will remain open until the storm passes.
